Vintage WW2 Bomber Jacket

WW2 B-17 Painted Vintage A2 Leather Flight Jacket 1

Sold on eBay: RARE Original WW2 B-17 Painted A2 Leather Flight Jacket for $2,600

I love amazing WW2 apparel and the classic A2 leather flight jacket is right at the top of that list. Usually you don’t see beautifully painted A2 jackets like this one in this good of condition. The painting is bright and bold. It sold way back in June but deserves to be noted.

Aero Leather Clothing Company produced these jackets from the state of New York for the WW2 effort. (The Vintage Leather Jacket Blog put together a short little history on them here) From the contract number, this one was commissioned in May of 1942.

From the listing:

“This is a rare original WW2 B-17 Painted Leather Type A-2 Flight Jacket .. Manufactured by Aero Leather Clothing Co. , Beacon , New York .. Size 38 .. British whistle attached to collar hook .. Nice leather and lining .. Waistband has a couple of small holes and the back of cuffs are worn .. Overall condition for a jacket this age is very nice .. The jacket belonged to Victor J. Acampa , a B-17 flight engineer from New Jersey .. I purchased the jacket many years ago from Mr. Acampa’s nephew and this was the only info he had .. It’s been in my collection for many years and it’s now time to let someone else enjoy it”

Sold on eBay: Vintage WW2 A2 Leather Jacket Painted Art & Squadron Patch

One of the best jackets to ever be created was the Rough Wear Type A2 Leather Jacket for the US Army Air Force pilots, navigators and bombardiers. The Rough Wear Clothing Co. of Middletown, PA was likely the most prolific war-time producer of A-2 jackets. They were contracted in the spring of 1941 and this jacket was produced during that run. Most A2’s were made of horsehide but I believe this jacket is made of goat – though I could be wrong. Either way, the painting brings it’s own history to this piece. Certainly unique and very much amazing.

From the listing:

“The Art: The rear of the jacket pictures a sickly-looking, terrified Adolf Hitler plugging his ears as a bomb drops from the sky toward his head. In yellow lettering, the phrase “No use, Adolf” appears above his head to the left. The Patches: On the left shoulder there is a beautiful bullion-on-wool Army Air Force SSI. On the front of the jacket appears a beautiful felt embroidered black cat riding a yellow bomb in front of a large red “V.” Above the cat is the pin “To Hell with Hitler.” The patch is sewn on a larger green leather disk.  The disk is then sewn on the jacket. It appears the disk was sewn over four metal snaps where something was previously snapped (perhaps another patch?)”
