Pre WW2

1930's US Navy Flight jacket Feature

Sold on eBay: 1930s Pre WWII Zielinski 37J1 US Navy Flight Jacket

It’s been far too long since I’ve posted, and I regret that. In order to make it up to those who have been waiting, begging and pleading for some new vintage content, let’s go on a little tour of vintage from the last 2 months. We’ll start with this excellent US Navy Flight Jacket  -a great piece of military history that sold on eBay way back on May 18th. From the listing:

“This jacket is an original U.S. Navy 37J1 from around 1937. The jacket is in well used condition, and is one of the most rare types found these days. These were issued throughout the 1930s by the Navy for flight crews, and a number of contractors made them, including Aero Leather. This particular contractor made flight clothing of other types for the Navy as well.

We were able to lend this very same jacket to The Real McCoy’s of Japan to make their own copy of this contract. It has done well, and they are currently still making it.”

Found this gorgeous photo that sold on eBay. It’s worth a look especially for those beautiful A1 jackets. From the listing:

“Great 7×9 original image of the identified staff officers of the 20th bombardment squadron, in about 1930 or so.  They all wear the A1 flight jacket with square versions of the 20th bombardment patch, SUPER looking!  Slightly light exposure.  Man standing in center is squadron commander Captain Robert Cronau.  Back notes this is at Langley Field, VA.”
