This great Harley jacket sold on eBay way back on April 7th. It’s rare to see a Cycle Champ in this sizing and the final sale price confirms that. From the listing:
“Selling an early 40s Harley Davidson Cycle Champ D pocket jacket that I got from the original owners family. It was given to him by harley with the purchase of his knucklehead in the 40s. The jacket is in INCREDIBLE condition for its age with original tag, lining and even leather tassels on the zippers!
The jacket actually fits unlike most tiny d pockets from back then!
All zippers and buttons function perfectly.
The sergeant strap on the shoulder has a couple stitches that have fallen out and the owner also replaced the belt loops when the others failed. The jacket measures roughly 18″ shoulder to shoulder, 22.5″ under the arm pits and 25″ arm length.
Its a jacket I will probably regret selling!”

Harley Davidson has had some unique & amazing t shirt designs. This “Slick Operator” tee is certainly one of them. Printed on a Champion blue bar t shirt, this shirt features the Evil Kneivel #1 logo on a can of Harley Davidson motorcycle oil as it pours out the slick operator print… It’s a classic Harley tee.

A really stellar vintage Harley Davidson Sweater sold on eBay this weekend. It’s condition was pristine – it looked as though it had never been worn. The seller “hydra-glide” put it up to the auction block along with several other vintage Harley Davidson items. No doubt this sweater had been well cared for. This was the “U-V Neck Sweater” from 1934 and was one of the first items from Harley Davidson to feature the new “Silver Wings” patch. The ad from the 1934 Accessories Catalog calls it “the best buy of the year!” These sweaters were first sold for $2.95 with the “special colors” going for $3.25. From the seller’s auction listing:
“Locating a wool sweater of ANY type from the 1930’s in this condition is rare in itself, the fact that it is an artifact from the Harley-Davidson Motor Company makes this sweater even more valuable. Add to that that this color combination was a “special order” from the factory featuring Harley Davidson’s famous black and orange colors, and you have an item that I don’t think you will find again, much less in better condition, perhaps ever. This is a stunning sweater and one of my “gems” from my collection.”

This might be the most beautiful vintage Harley Davidson racing jersey I’ve seen. These were officially known as the Harley Davidson “Turtle Zip Sweater” and were produced between the early 1930’s and the mid 1950’s. You can see a later example of this sweater here.
This particular Harley Davidson Turtle Zip Sweater sold back on February 9th and featured the unique “Dick Fischer Athletic Goods” label, the front Harley Davidson lettering in white, the unique “97” on the back in blue and an original Talon bell zipper closure. In excellent vintage shape, this sale price doesn’t surprise me. As far as I can tell, this red/white/blue color combo is certainly unique and quite rare. I’m sure “Bill” loved this thing. I know I do.
Check out a previous post featuring vintage photographs of this jersey being worn by competition racers from the 1930’s – 50’s:

This vintage Harley Davidson jersey shirt popped up on eBay sometime last week and sold at auction with 15 total bids. 5 bills is no surprise for this piece. Really great condition for it’s age, seems this jersey is hardly worn.

I’m not sure how I missed this – it’s a real rarity. It’s an amazing vintage Harley Davidson Leather jacket (called the “Sportster” jacket) in deadstock condition! It was even auctioned with the original box! Harley Davidson first launched the “Sportster” in the mid 1950’s and started by making them out of horsehide. This one being the white label is most likely from the 1960’s and was made of steerhide. The zippers are made by Conmar, the lining was mint and the size is small – 34/36. With the condition of this jacket, I really can’t believe that it sold for only $560…. To me, this jacket should be worth much, much more. Somebody got themselves a deal.
I did a write up about the vintage Harley Davidson leather jacket “Sportster” model back in September and I go into much more detail about the history and style of this jacket. You can check that out at the link below:

One of my all-time favorites is the Harley Davidson Cycle Champ Jacket.
Harley launched this jacket just after World War 2, around 1947. They continued this design through the the AMF period but, without a doubt, the best ones are from the 1940’s and 50’s. The slim black “mark of quality” Harley label was used from about 1947 through the early 50’s when they switched to their classic “High Quality, Fine Workmanship” square label. This Harley Davidson Cycle Champ Jacket was made of horsehide and was decorated with the bright “nickeled chain spots” on the shoulder epaulets. The D Pocket and “cigarette pocket” each contain their own spot working as well. This particular jacket still had it’s original Harley Davidson embossed leather belt. It possessed just the right amount of wear. All the original zippers existed and operated as they should. The main zip was a “Hershey Bar” Talon and still had it’s leather pull tab with the original spot working.
From the first Cycle Champ advertisement in the 1947 Harley Davidson’s Accessory Catalog:
“An all around good looking, long wearing, genuine black horsehide leather jacket.”
Original Price: $29.75
The spot work was gorgeous, the design was brilliant and the leather has never been bested by Harley.
Embossed Harley Davidson Belt
Red plaid interior liner
