One of the most iconic brands in American history is the Levi Strauss Co. In the 1940’s and 50’s they were producing products with labels known today as “Levi’s Short Horn” labels. You can see that in the pictures below. These were very well constructed pieces, adapted over time and made for the hard working Americans who donned them. We’ve seen others sell on eBay recently for quite impressive sale prices (see here & here).
But this one’s a little bit different – it brings the western plaid to the table and the western plaid is a favorite of mine. Now I hate to have to admit this, but it’s my guess that the plaid is the reason for the low sale price. Seriously, pre-auction I would have guessed this shirt would have sold for $500+. I blame retailers like American Eagle and Hollister for this sort of response. They hijacked the western plaid years ago and have diminished it’s value in the vintage industry. Either way, it’s a beautiful piece. I should have bought this.
