WW2 B-17 Painted Vintage A2 Leather Flight Jacket 1

Sold on eBay: RARE Original WW2 B-17 Painted A2 Leather Flight Jacket for $2,600

I love amazing WW2 apparel and the classic A2 leather flight jacket is right at the top of that list. Usually you don’t see beautifully painted A2 jackets like this one in this good of condition. The painting is bright and bold. It sold way back in June but deserves to be noted.

Aero Leather Clothing Company produced these jackets from the state of New York for the WW2 effort. (The Vintage Leather Jacket Blog put together a short little history on them here) From the contract number, this one was commissioned in May of 1942.

From the listing:

“This is a rare original WW2 B-17 Painted Leather Type A-2 Flight Jacket .. Manufactured by Aero Leather Clothing Co. , Beacon , New York .. Size 38 .. British whistle attached to collar hook .. Nice leather and lining .. Waistband has a couple of small holes and the back of cuffs are worn .. Overall condition for a jacket this age is very nice .. The jacket belonged to Victor J. Acampa , a B-17 flight engineer from New Jersey .. I purchased the jacket many years ago from Mr. Acampa’s nephew and this was the only info he had .. It’s been in my collection for many years and it’s now time to let someone else enjoy it”

1930's US Navy Flight jacket Feature

Sold on eBay: 1930s Pre WWII Zielinski 37J1 US Navy Flight Jacket

It’s been far too long since I’ve posted, and I regret that. In order to make it up to those who have been waiting, begging and pleading for some new vintage content, let’s go on a little tour of vintage from the last 2 months. We’ll start with this excellent US Navy Flight Jacket  -a great piece of military history that sold on eBay way back on May 18th. From the listing:

“This jacket is an original U.S. Navy 37J1 from around 1937. The jacket is in well used condition, and is one of the most rare types found these days. These were issued throughout the 1930s by the Navy for flight crews, and a number of contractors made them, including Aero Leather. This particular contractor made flight clothing of other types for the Navy as well.

We were able to lend this very same jacket to The Real McCoy’s of Japan to make their own copy of this contract. It has done well, and they are currently still making it.”

Vintage WW2 A2 Leather Jacket painted back

Sold on eBay: Vintage WW2 A2 Leather Jacket Painted Art & Squadron Patch

One of the best jackets to ever be created was the Rough Wear Type A2 Leather Jacket for the US Army Air Force pilots, navigators and bombardiers. The Rough Wear Clothing Co. of Middletown, PA was likely the most prolific war-time producer of A-2 jackets. They were contracted in the spring of 1941 and this jacket was produced during that run. Most A2’s were made of horsehide but I believe this jacket is made of goat – though I could be wrong. Either way, the painting brings it’s own history to this piece. Certainly unique and very much amazing.

From the listing:

“The Art: The rear of the jacket pictures a sickly-looking, terrified Adolf Hitler plugging his ears as a bomb drops from the sky toward his head. In yellow lettering, the phrase “No use, Adolf” appears above his head to the left. The Patches: On the left shoulder there is a beautiful bullion-on-wool Army Air Force SSI. On the front of the jacket appears a beautiful felt embroidered black cat riding a yellow bomb in front of a large red “V.” Above the cat is the pin “To Hell with Hitler.” The patch is sewn on a larger green leather disk.  The disk is then sewn on the jacket. It appears the disk was sewn over four metal snaps where something was previously snapped (perhaps another patch?)”

Sold on eBay: Vintage WW2 Deck Jacket w/ original 1940’S USN Stencil

This weekend a beautiful Vintage WW2 Deck Jacket sold on eBay for $1,700! General wear and tear are certainly present but overall this jacket is in great shape! The original stenciling was present and patina’d. A real good looking piece. Here is the description from the listing:

Beautiful 1940’s USN hook closure blue deck jacket. Back displays stenciling identifying the original owner as First Lieutenant. Fabric is strong, retains original cuffs, waistband and collar. A few small holes in cuffs, waistband, and collar but nothing large or damaging. Some light wear associated with age but again nothing serious. This is all original, intact, and very wearable. There is a small hole in the lining in the lower right (see pics.) Overall this is a beautiful piece of American history with great patina and wear. Tag is intact and designates the size as 42. See below for actual measurements. Please contact me with any questions.”

Vintage WW2 T Shirt 4

Sold on eBay: Vintage WW2 T Shirt – US ARMY Camp Gruber OK.

Here’s an excellent Vintage WW2 T shirt that sold on eBay just last week. From the listing:

“Excellent vintage military tee. Shirt appears to be dead stock WWII issue from Camp Gruber.

Gruber was commissioned in 1942 and active until 1947. It was subsequently closed from 1947 to 1966, and re-commissioned in 1967 as an Oklahoma Army National Guard training facility. This shirt displays the more “boat neck” style of tee from the 40s. It has no rips or tears. Just one small stain (about 1/16″, just after the “Y” in Army – see photos). The pits are spotless and all the seams are solid. It has a beautiful blue flock which is in good shape.

The bottom hem has four small button holes. Two on the right side, two on the left. The holes are tight and solid and appear to have never surrounded a button. The shirt also has a stamp on the inside back top which reads: 38 NX24163.”

Here are the details:
